Etymology

The Garlean military is based on that of the Roman Empire. In Latin, laquearius means snarer, and referred to a type of Roman gladiator said to fight with a noose (laqueus) or lasso in one hand and a sword in the other. The noose is the symbol of the executioner, which is the Japanese name for the marauder class.
