A knight of Ishgard lives to serve, and lives to fall in battle. Every last one of us is fated for this holy duty long before we are born─and when the last dragon perishes, we shall meet again in the hall of our fathers.

Thus spoke my father to me, and his father to him. Thus did I speak to mine own son...and the count to his, I expect.

Biography
Theobalin belongs to a line of Ishgardian knights, at least one of each generation dying in the crusade. His father fell manning the ballista at Skyfire Locks and he is the last of three brothers. He had four sons and a daughter, two of his boys dying in infancy while his wife died in childbirth with the third. His daughter and the grandchildren she bore him died of illness.
When his surviving son chose to become a knight, he gave him his wife's naming ring, only to see it returned by an adventurer when the boy perished ignominiously to a feral croc on Haldrath's March. The adventurer lied to him at the behest of his fellow knight, Stephannot, leading him to believe his boy died fighting the Dravanians. Though he knew that he was now the last of his line, Theobalin felt pride in his son for dying with honor, giving his life to the cause. [1]
