Actions Are any abilities, attacks, spells, passive traits, or other functions that can be used by the player. To use actions, they must be set to the Action Bar. Players can set any action to the action bar as long as they have learned it and meet the class type requirements (Typically either "All classes", "Disciples of War or Magic", "Disciples of the Hand or land" or more rarely, one specific class), even if it was not learned on their current class and its "Optimal Rank" is higher than their class level.

Once learned, you do not need to meet any level/rank requirement to be able to use an action, but those actions may not be fully effective until the optimal rank is achieved. Also, actions set from a different class will have a 50% longer recast time and may be less potent than if used by the original class. That said, many actions may be used by different classes than the one that learned them.

Actions usually have some cost associated with them, be it TP, MP, or simply time. All actions have a brief shared cooldown time which is shown as the Stamina Gauge, shown on the HUD. When the action gauge is full, an action may be performed. Aside from that, every action has a cooldown time, which can range from a few seconds to half an hour or more. Most actions learned by Disciples of War or Disciples of Magic require you to be in Active Mode to use them.

Equipping actions to your action bar requires Action Points. You can only place an action on your action bar if you have enough unused Action Points to meet the action's cost.

Actions fall into four main groups:

Battle Actions

The majority of actions fall under this category: they are set to your action bar slots, and have some effect on you, allies, or enemies that helps you in combat. Generally, you must be in Active Mode to use them. These include things like basic weapon attacks, weapon skills, spells, and special abilities.

Traits

These "Actions" are equipped to their own set of action slots and could be actions that activate automatically when certain conditions are met, or passive bonuses that improve your abilities in combat or elsewhere.

Synthesis Actions

These, along with some of the Gathering Actions described below, are set to another set of action slots independent from the others, and grant you special abilities and effects that improve your synthesis capabilities on Disciples of the Hand.

Gathering Actions

These actions are used by Disciples of the Land, and are generally abilities that help you find and obtain resources in the wilderness. Some of these are usable actions set to the action bar that generally require you to be in Passive Mode rather than Active Mode, while others improve or alter your gathering capabilities and results and are set to the same action slots as the synthesis actions described above.
