Mounts allow players to travel faster than if on foot and are acquired in a variety of ways.  Enemies will still attempt attack you whilst mounted, and can inflict damage on you (including KO) and doing so might eventually cause you to to dismount.</onlyinclude> 
* Once outside, players can control their Mount as they would their PCs, using the movement keys on their keyboard or the analog stick on their gamepad.  To fly while on a flying mount in a zone in which flight is available, jump twice or run off a cliff.

* Players can unlock the use of mounts through the one of the [[My Little Chocobo]] grand company side quests.

* Players can unlock flying mounts through the Main Scenario Quest [[Divine Intervention]]. Before flying in a zone, players need to attune with the [[Aether Current]]s in that zone. 

* Personal mounts running on the ground '''are faster''' than a [[Rental Chocobo]].  When flying a mount moves at twice the speed of a running mount. 

* The speed of mounts can be increased through a variety of means.  ''See'' [[Mount Speed]] for details.

* Players will be detected by enemies as they would if they were on foot.

* Players may manually dismount from their mount by clicking button you originally clicked to mount (usually the mount icon located in the micro menu or in the Mount guide), or by cancelling (via right-clicking) the 'Mounted' buff in the UI.  Mounts will forcefully dismount you upon entering certain areas, such as city-states.

* While a player is mounted the background music will change, unless turned off in the options. Many mounts have special music that plays while riding them.
