Rated battles offer a more competitive setting for PvP battles. Team Ranked Matches require a complete Light Party, all the members of which must belong to a Team. Team matches, while always available, are primarily intended for official contests such as the previously held Feast Regional Championships 2018, and do not currently award the usual ranked rewards. While rankings are not published, Teams are still assigned a rating which is reset after each season, and is used for matching purposes.

Each rank tier requires a certain minimum rating. When you achieve this rating, you will play a best-of-five match series, in which you must win three of the next five games to advance to the next tier.
 +

Rated play is broken down into seasons, which typically last from one secondary patch (x.x5) to the next. At the end of each season, players are given special rewards based on the tier achieved, and then a new season begins and all ratings are reset.

A win/loss in rated play earns/costs you a base value of 25 rating points, but this value can increase or decrease if the overall rating of each team is unbalanced (beating a weaker/stronger team will earn you less/more points, and losing to a weaker/stronger team will cost you more/less points). ==Dueling (Patch 3.4)==
 +
The Wolves' Den Pier has a large open area where players may challenge each other to duels. You can participate after completing the level 1 quest It's Time to Duel. As soon as the quest is complete, you can challenge other players to duels within the Dueling Square in the Wolves' Den Pier.

Participation
Participation
To participate in any PvP activity, you must be at least level 30 and have met the requirements for a particular event to appear in the Duty Finder before you can participate (See each PvP area above for the requirements for each one). All PvP is accessed through the Duty Finder. There is no cost to participate; however, if you leave a PvP duty instance before it has concluded, you will be unable to participate in PvP duties again for 15 minutes upon exiting.

To participate in any PvP activity (except duels), you must be at least level 50 and have met the requirements for a particular event to appear in the Duty Finder before you can participate (See each PvP area above for the requirements for each one). All PvP is accessed through the Duty Finder. There is no cost to participate; however, if you leave a PvP duty instance before it has concluded, you will be unable to participate in PvP duties again for 30 minutes upon exiting (Rated The Feast locks you out of all content for 30 minutes).
 +

 +
Once you meet the requirements, it is a simple matter of queuing up in the duty finder for the event and tier you want to participate in. You can join alone, or with a party. Players in the same party will be on the same side in the PvP duty.
 +
Custom Matches (Patch 3.4)
 +
For The Feast only, it is possible to set up arranged matches with friends on the same server. To do this, create a Party Finder listing, click the Custom Matchc tab, and select the mode (4 man or 8 man mode) and map. When All participants are ready, queue for the desired map/mode in the Duty Finder and everyone will then be transported to the arena. During a Custom Match, chat modes normally restricted in the Feast (such as linkshell and Free Company chat) can be used in addition to the usual Feast chat commands.
 +

 +
After a Custom Match is completed, players may optionally play again with the same teams and spectators up to 5 times if everyone clicks the "Request Rematch" button instead of "Leave" on the end of game screen.

Once you meet the requirements, it is a simple matter of queuing up in the duty finder for the event and tier you want to participate in. You can join alone, or with a party. Players in the same party will be on the same side in the PvP duty.
+
Note that regardless of the Duty Finder queue, you can have any number of participants as long as the Fang and Claw parties each have at least one player.
 +

 +
Spectator Mode
 +
It is also possible to spectate Feast custom matches. By creating a third party of at least two people who wish to observe a match and inviting them to spectate, you can have up to 8 observers who can watch the action with a dedicated UI showing the status of all players on both teams and the current score along with buttons to switch between several fixed cameras around the arena (Or, you can spectate from a selected participant's viewpoint as well).

*All (or nearly all) abilities, spells and attacks function identically in PvP; However, special actions can also be acquired for PvP that can not be used in other areas.
+
*As of the Stormblood expansion, all Jobs use a unique set of actions for PvP, which are balanced separately from PvE. In addition to the job specific actions, you have a pool of additional actions from which you may select two, as well as a pool of unique PvP traits, from which you may select three.
*Another exception is enmity. Enmity is currently useless for PvP, so abilities that only generate enmity, such as Provoke, will have no effect.
+
*Spells will only be interrupted by crowd control or breaking line of sight.
*There is a 100% rate of spellcasting interruption due to damage in PvP, unless you are under the effect of Equanmity.
+
*Gear and level has no effect on your stats for PvP and determines your appearance only.
*Archers and Bards have their damage modified by distance in PvP, with shooting at maximum range causing lower damage. They can learn the action Farshot to attack at range with no penalty.
+
*Crowd control effects will grant immunity to the same type of effect for a period of time after being influcted. This is different from PvE where durations are reduced on subsequent applications before immunity takes effect.
*Damage is calculated normally, except that a special character attribute, Morale, reduces damage received from enemy players. This stat is not used in damage calculation against monsters.
+
*All chat is restricted in PvP, except for party chat and regular emotes. This is to minimize the potential for abuse. Note that you can still receive Novice Network, Linkshell and Free Company chat, but you will be unable to respond until the PvP instance has ended.
*Crowd control effects (e.g. Sleep, Repose follow a 100% -> 50% -> 25% - 0% -> 100% -> ... duration cycle.
+
:* Since Patch 2.3 Other chat modes can still be used, but they will only be heard by players on the same side as you.
*All chat is restricted in PvP, except for party chat and emotes. This is to minimize the potential for abuse. Note that you can still receive Linkshell and Free Company chat, but you will be unable to respond until the PvP instance has ended.

*Opposing players have their names masked until the battle is over. This is to reduce the likelihood of collaboration with the opponents. Opposing players will be identified only by their current class or job. The exception is The Feast, where player names are shown.
*Opposing players have their names masked until the battle is over. This is to reduce the likelihood of collaboration with the opponents.
+
*The Limit Break system is replaced with the Adrenaline system, which functions almost the same but is separate for each player- that is, each player has their own Adrenaline gauge, rather than a single gauge for the party. Ranged and Caster limit breaks have substantially decreased effectiveness for targets beyond the first.
*The Limit Break gauge is available; it caps at level 1 for Light Parties and level 2 for Full Parties; Level 3 limit breaks are not possible.
+
*As of Patch 2.4, magic DPS limit breaks take 0.5 seconds longer to cast, and cancelling a limit break before it finishes casting will deplete 1 limit break bar, to discourage players from triggering false panic in opponents by casting and cancelling it.
*When you are K.O.'d, there is no option to return. You can only wait for another player to cast Raise or Resurrection on you. Teleport and Return can not be used to leave the area. If you wish to quit the battle, Click the Leave button in the Duty Finder interface. If you do so however, you'll be blocked from participating in PvP again for 15 minutes.
+
*When in a PvP area which allows mounting, two-person mounts can not be used, and flying mounts can not fly.
 +
*When you are K.O.'d, you will be able to respawn after a short delay with no weakness at your starting location. the Return action can also be used in Frontline battles, subject to the normal cooldown.
 +
*As of Stormblood, Morale is removed from the game, as gear no longer has any effect in PvP.
 +
*Players under the effect of Hide are completely invisible to both allies and opponents and can not be targeted by either.

Rewards
Rewards
As you participate in PvP battles, you will earn Experience. When you earn enough, your Rank will increase. Each PvP rank awards Action Points which can be spent to unlock PvP-exlcusive actions and traits. If your current class/job is not level 50, you will also earn normal experience points from non-level 50 battles.
+
As you participate in PvP battles, you will earn regular Experience Points and Experience. When you earn enough, your Rank will increase. When you reach certain PvP Rank milestones, you will unlock a new achievement and title.

In addition, each PvP event has a selection of items and equipment with stats tailored towards PvP. See the specific content's page for the rewards associated with it. Some PvP equipment may have a rank requirement to equip, and if PvP gear has Materia slots, the materia placed in them will only take effect in PvP content. Outside of this restriction, however, PvP reward gear can be used in any content, though most will not be as effective as same-level PvE gear due to one of the secondary stat slots being replaced with Morale.
+
Wolf Marks earned from PvP participation can be used at the Wolves' Den Pier to obtain unique equipment and other items. Allagan Tomestones can also be obtained from each PvP duty.
 +

 +
Additionally, there is a selection of special mounts, titles, and gear that are earned from PvP-related achievements.

PvP only takes place in special instanced areas and certain other designated locations. You can not become hostile towards other players outside of these areas. All PvP content requires a level 30 or higher Job of the Disciples of War or Magic.

PvP-Related Areas

PvP Duties

Rival Wings

Rival Wings pits two teams of 24 players against each other in an objective based PvP match featuring siege weaponry known as machina. Teams are broken down into 6 parties of four (each party is able to field a single machina at any given time). Astragalos, the first Rival Wings duty, features a large map with mechanics resembling those of a Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA), in which the main objective is to destroy the core located in the other team's base. For detailed information, see the duty page above. One to four players can queue together as a single party. The Hidden Gorge is the second map for Rival Wings, with some additional wrinkles on the gameplay introduced in Astragalos.

Frontline

Borderland Ruins (Slaughter) has been removed as of the Stormblood expansion.

Frontline is a large-scale, 3-way battle for domination. The battles generally feature a large open area where three teams of up to 24 players each compete for control of a vast wasteland with allagan technology lying about. There are four modes across three different areas, the Carteneau Flats (CF), Seal Rock (SR) or the Fields of Glory (FoG).

 • "Secure" (CF), where the goal is to be the first team to accumulate a set Tactical Rating score, which is earned from taking control points, defeating opponents, and killing special monsters. Added in Patch 2.3
 • "Seize" (SR), where teams compete to obtain valuable data from Allagan tomeliths which appear around the area. Added in Patch 3.05
 • "Shatter" (FoG), which is a bit of a hybrid of the other modes, where the goal is to earn points through controlling capture points like Secure, kills as in Slaughter, and by destroying Icebound Tomeliths.
 • On any given day, one of the three Frontline modes will be featured and only that mode will be available. At midnight (server time) the available battle will change, using the list of modes above in that order.
 • A Frontline Daily Challenge is also available which will earn you additional rewards the first time you queue for it each day.

Frontline also contains unique battle mechanics such as "Battle Highs" which reward kill streaks and unique game objectives for each mode.

Regardless of area and mode, Frontline is made to be accessible to all and has minimal requirements in order to facilitate party matching- players may even change jobs in their team's starting area.

The Wolves' Den (Unrated)

The Fold and 8 on 8 battles have been removed in the Stormblood expansion.

The Feast: In this arena, two teams of 4 battle it out to collect the most medals. Each player starts with 100 medals, and you drop half of your medal total when you are KO'd. The match ends when one team reaches the target number of medals. If neither team accomplishes this before the time runs out, the team with the most medals will be the winner.

Custom matches allow friends (or frienemies) to play Feast matches for fun or learning. No rewards are given in these duties. See below for more information on Custom Matches.

Team Custom Match allows you to use your PvP teams and have spectators. Team Custom Matches will show the crests of the two PvP Teams and use their names instead of the standard generic Fangs and Claws.

Each rank tier requires a certain minimum rating. When you achieve this rating, you will play a best-of-five match series, in which you must win three of the next five games to advance to the next tier.

The Wolves' Den Pier has a large open area where players may challenge each other to duels. You can participate after completing the level 1 quest It's Time to Duel. As soon as the quest is complete, you can challenge other players to duels within the Dueling Square in the Wolves' Den Pier.

Participation

To participate in any PvP activity (except duels), you must be at least level 50 and have met the requirements for a particular event to appear in the Duty Finder before you can participate (See each PvP area above for the requirements for each one). All PvP is accessed through the Duty Finder. There is no cost to participate; however, if you leave a PvP duty instance before it has concluded, you will be unable to participate in PvP duties again for 30 minutes upon exiting (Rated The Feast locks you out of all content for 30 minutes).

Once you meet the requirements, it is a simple matter of queuing up in the duty finder for the event and tier you want to participate in. You can join alone, or with a party. Players in the same party will be on the same side in the PvP duty.

Custom Matches (Patch 3.4)

For The Feast only, it is possible to set up arranged matches with friends on the same server. To do this, create a Party Finder listing, click the Custom Matchc tab, and select the mode (4 man or 8 man mode) and map. When All participants are ready, queue for the desired map/mode in the Duty Finder and everyone will then be transported to the arena. During a Custom Match, chat modes normally restricted in the Feast (such as linkshell and Free Company chat) can be used in addition to the usual Feast chat commands.

After a Custom Match is completed, players may optionally play again with the same teams and spectators up to 5 times if everyone clicks the "Request Rematch" button instead of "Leave" on the end of game screen.

Note that regardless of the Duty Finder queue, you can have any number of participants as long as the Fang and Claw parties each have at least one player.

Spectator Mode

It is also possible to spectate Feast custom matches. By creating a third party of at least two people who wish to observe a match and inviting them to spectate, you can have up to 8 observers who can watch the action with a dedicated UI showing the status of all players on both teams and the current score along with buttons to switch between several fixed cameras around the arena (Or, you can spectate from a selected participant's viewpoint as well).

Rules

This section lists things that are different about PvP compared to PvE gameplay. Things here apply generally to all PvP activities unless otherwise noted. See a specific PvP area's page for rules specific to that particular area.

 • As of the Stormblood expansion, all Jobs use a unique set of actions for PvP, which are balanced separately from PvE. In addition to the job specific actions, you have a pool of additional actions from which you may select two, as well as a pool of unique PvP traits, from which you may select three.
 • Spells will only be interrupted by crowd control or breaking line of sight.
 • Gear and level has no effect on your stats for PvP and determines your appearance only.
 • Crowd control effects will grant immunity to the same type of effect for a period of time after being influcted. This is different from PvE where durations are reduced on subsequent applications before immunity takes effect.
 • All chat is restricted in PvP, except for party chat and regular emotes. This is to minimize the potential for abuse. Note that you can still receive Novice Network, Linkshell and Free Company chat, but you will be unable to respond until the PvP instance has ended.
 • Since Patch 2.3 Other chat modes can still be used, but they will only be heard by players on the same side as you.
 • Opposing players have their names masked until the battle is over. This is to reduce the likelihood of collaboration with the opponents. Opposing players will be identified only by their current class or job. The exception is The Feast, where player names are shown.
 • The Limit Break system is replaced with the Adrenaline system, which functions almost the same but is separate for each player- that is, each player has their own Adrenaline gauge, rather than a single gauge for the party. Ranged and Caster limit breaks have substantially decreased effectiveness for targets beyond the first.
 • As of Patch 2.4, magic DPS limit breaks take 0.5 seconds longer to cast, and cancelling a limit break before it finishes casting will deplete 1 limit break bar, to discourage players from triggering false panic in opponents by casting and cancelling it.
 • When in a PvP area which allows mounting, two-person mounts can not be used, and flying mounts can not fly.
 • When you are K.O.'d, you will be able to respawn after a short delay with no weakness at your starting location. the Return action can also be used in Frontline battles, subject to the normal cooldown.
 • As of Stormblood, Morale is removed from the game, as gear no longer has any effect in PvP.
 • Players under the effect of Hide are completely invisible to both allies and opponents and can not be targeted by either.

Rewards

As you participate in PvP battles, you will earn regular Experience Points and PvP Experience. When you earn enough, your PvP Rank will increase. When you reach certain PvP Rank milestones, you will unlock a new achievement and title.

Wolf Marks earned from PvP participation can be used at the Wolves' Den Pier to obtain unique equipment and other items. Allagan Tomestones can also be obtained from each PvP duty.

Additionally, there is a selection of special mounts, titles, and gear that are earned from PvP-related achievements.
