Thanks for the welcome Gahoo! You now have the dubious honor of being my go-to person for questions XD

Hi Gahoo, long time no see. I hope you are fine. I wanted to start working on the German version quite early to add some articles but I can't edit, add or do anything else on the German bit. Can you help me? Thanks in advance. --Shaari 14:54, 7 August 2009 (UTC)

Through my research I have come across four leves which, according to the best info available, are unavailable in the game now (ex. No pain, no grain). What edit should I do to those? It feels at least a warning of some sort would be warranted.

I also came across a leve mob, Stalker Anole, which is currently listed as extinct. I would have liked to correct that but didn't know how. Any directives or an example of how to do it would be appreciated.

Hey, Gahoo. I see you've coded up a bunch of templates, and things are starting to get populated. Would you mind if I had a play with the infobox templates? I've already had a go at cleaning up the Recipe template, and would like to have a go at making things sit a bit better (and make things a bit easier on the eyes when these pages start filling up with lots of text).-- 12:09, 17 August 2010 (UTC)

Hi there! Regarding your question: for ones where I'm mentioning recipe, I'm just taking it from recipe. Where I haven't mentioned recipe, the additions are from confirmed in-game desynths.

+
I started off adding only actual drops but I have found through investigations (~20 desynths of about 100 different low-level, craftable items I have bought in shops) that I was reliably able to receive all recipe items for every craftable item I tried (weapons, armour, tabletop items, flooring etc). The possible desynth volumes always reflected the recipe volumes too. I haven't delved into whether this continues to be true for expensive housing stuff (walls etc) or very rare/high level items (I've only finished ARR), hence just focusing on the basic stuff first.
I threw together a few examples of what I'm thinking of. You'll need to copy my User:Anthoron/monobook.css into yours to see some elements, and temporarily switch your skin to monobook (the eorzeapedia2 skin has some weird global spacing that I can't seem to override in user CSS, so some things crunch together badly---things are slightly larger in monobook, but it looks a bit better at the moment).

If you've found any examples where the recipe items aren't receiveable via desynth (or desynths are resulting in non-demimateria items that aren't in the recipe) then I'd be very interested to know! I got started down this route because I'm playing the marketboard for desynth value. I'm probably up to about 30,000+ desynths now as I maxed out the 10,000 desynths achievement quite a long time ago... I have some Gil to spare if you have any suggestions as it feels like a hard rule to me so far. Eseffbee (talk) 00:24, 2 October 2021 (UTC)

:I came across your desynth edit at Horned Hatchet and tried with a further 50 desynths and I also did not see Raptor Sinew as a drop. :So, why does Raptor Sinew not drop with Horned Hatchet? That recipe is unusual in having 5 recipe items, plus two shards, plus two demimateria drops. My next theory is that perhaps the game has a limit of maximum 8 potential desynth drops from any one item.

I dropped the background colours to avoid a colour overload and bad colour combinations (blue on blue, red on green, etc.); it also lets us use colour to highlight or emphasise certain elements or sections to help people quickly find useful bits of information, rather than just a wash.<br>

I re-arranged the item page a bit to show and emphasise the most pertinent elements first (requirements, stats, and appearance), and utilise the full width of the page. We can probably use DPL for most of the 'Acquisition' section, like you're already doing for recipes.<br>

Let me know what you think! -- 13:34, 19 August 2010 (UTC)

Any word on this? I'd be good to get something going---or at least a refactor of the item template---before the open beta.-- 23:48, 25 August 2010 (UTC)

Sure thing. My other concern with the templates was the size and scope of some of them. The item template especially, is already pretty hairy; and as the game develops, it'll require (1) continual modifications for new attributes that will propagate to thousands of pages, and (2) special-cases for certain groups, making it extremely complex and difficult to maintain. What about splitting some of the templates up into more piecemeal sections---something like this---where all of the information is still contained within template parameters, but the individual templates are much simpler?

I think it would be preferable to make this type of change before the wiki starts to become heavily populated. However, the existing templates make this a bit hard to do because of the wrapping tables---which is why I suggested a design shift, rather than just splitting things up; but I do understand your point about wanting to get things in and organised before re-thinking what things look like.

As for the box and stamina bars, I'll check them in the default skin and get back to you. They should just work with my CSS pulled into MediaWiki:Common.css.-- 02:55, 29 August 2010 (UTC)

:You'll need to pull it again, I made some changes.

:It'd also be nice if you could get rid of these rules from the eorzeapedia2 skin:

:* * {margin:0;padding:0}

:* The "line-height: 1.5em" rules in main.css (or, apply them globally)

:* The fixed-width stuff.

I noticed this when finding it in the quest category. I am not really sure the side-by-side journal/walkthrough design is a good idea (not that it hadn't suggested itself to me when I saw how long the quest pages get).

The main issue (which we probably should address before too long) is that many of our readers will probably want the walkthrough portion hidden in some fashion. I have seen wiki designs where spoilers are hidden and only display when an image is clicked on (I am afraid they weren't ones  I worked on, so I don't have URLs).

Unfortunately, even the journal log section contains a bunch of spoilers, but at least not the answers to the puzzles (I hope). --Swordmage 07:26, 17 September 2010 (UTC)
