Once believed native to the eastern continent of Othard, as a number of species were brought to Eorzea during a boom in trade relations, their abundance near recently discovered Allagan ruins suggests a tie with the lost empire. Rare and deadly the serpents are are prized participants in Coliseum matches that pit man against beast.

Etymology Caduceus is the name of the staff of Hermes in Greek mythology, depicted with two serpents coiled around the shaft and a pair of open wings at the apex. As a result of confusing Caduceus with the rod of Asclepius, the symbol is often associated with healing, a theme seen throughout the Binding Coil to represent Bahamut's regeneration. The name Caduceus, however, is more apt in Turn 1, given that the fight takes place under Bahamut's wing and, mid-battle, the snake divides into a clone of itself. Incidentally, the name Asclepius is used for a different snake in Turn 5. Gallery
