The morbol is a terrible beast that moves upon its slime-covered vines and roots. Highly aggressive, it kills both animals and plants with a combination of its noxious breath and ceaselessly flailing tendrils. Upon occasion, the beast will also emit a sweet-smelling gas which induces a deep sleep. Rather than rending or chewing, the fang-shaped thorns which line the morbol's maw serve to hold prey immobile during digestion. [1] |
Etymology ![]() |
---|
The Morbol has been known in previous Final Fantasy games as Molbol and Malboro (in Japanese, Moruboru). Malboro is possibly a portmanteau of the Latin prefix mal-, meaning bad, and the the Greek word boros, meaning breath. |

And with much carfling and spraying of his breath he corrupteth and smircheth all manner of herb and beast that hath life. All that partake in the noyful fumosities should die anon for they become infected with the stench thereof. It happeth oft-times from his maw cometh right good air and savour, and no man may suffer the smell thereof, instead passing into slumber." |
