Lalafell Naming Conventions

These are the naming conventions that Lalafell use. Interestingly, even though few (if any) Dunesfolk go by Plainsfolk naming conventions, a huge amount of Plainsfolk (both male and female) have Dunesfolk names, perhaps to be taken more seriously by cityfolk, who would already be familiar with their commercially-minded cousins.

Plainsfolk[edit]

Remember: There are always exceptions to the rules

Male[edit]

AB – CB (Example: Zorido Manarido)

In the case of Plainsfolk males, A and C may rhyme, but need not. They will usually always use their full names, rarely ever breaking them down into first or last only. There seems to be variance as to if one or two syllables exists in each part. While both Plainsfolk and Dunesfolk females will usually only go by their first names, when in the service of a Grand Company, they will often use their full names.

Female[edit]

ABB – AB (Example: Mimomo Mimo

Plainsfolk female names don't seem to have surnames on display in-game, but they can be easily inferred by first names that conform to Plainsfolk conventions.

Dunesfolk[edit]

Remember: There are always exceptions to the rules

Male[edit]

AAB – CCB (Example: Jajariku Nanariku / Nunulupa Tatalupa)

The A and C phonemes are 1 syllable, the B phoneme 2. The A and C phonemes may rhyme, but do not have to. Unlike their Plainsfolk cousins, the Dunesfolk males often only use their first names. This can make them difficult to tell from females, at times.

Female[edit]

AAB – AB (Example: Jajano Jano)

The A and B phonemes are 1 syllable. While both Plainsfolk and Dunesfolk females will usually only go by their first names, when in the service of a Grand Company, they will often use their full names.

Royalty[edit]

Members of the Ul’dah and Sil’dih royal families also bear the names of their respective sultanates. (Example: Nanamo Ul Namo / Lalawefu Sil Tatawefu)
