In various folklore puck is a mythological fairy or mischievous nature sprite. In Friesland, it was called Puk. In Latvian myth, Pukis is a flying household spirit that brings its master stolen items. Puk was also a thieving small dragon in Germany and the Baltic states.
Raimdelle Codex
"The puk catcheth prey in a wonder wise. It is let by its own stoutness and cannot rese upon insects dwelling in boughs, therefore it useth its little wings for to leap a full ten hands and capture the insects anon. And when this scaly beast waxeth wroth, a full flaying of its tail doth it smite his prey full sore therewith."
