F.A.T.E.s.
Full Active Time Events - or F.A.T.E. for short - are open-world battles and tasks of various sorts that occur spontaneously in various locations throughout Eorzea. They can happen at any time and everyone in the vicinity of a FATE can participate in them automatically. Everyone is able to cooperate to complete the FATE's objectives.

For Heavensward, Hunt Boards are found in Foundation (at The Forgotten Knight) and the quest to unlock them is called Let the Clan Hunt Begin. Player Versus Player.
Player Versus Player (Commonly read as PvP) duties are events where players are not all fighting on the same side. Generally these are competitive events where the goal is for a player or team of players to get kills, complete an objective, or do something else before the opposing players accomplish the same goal. Unlike other quests or battles, the enemies you face here are other players, who will typically behave very differently from A.I. controlled monsters.

Stone, Sky, Sea.
Unlocked upon completion of the quest A Striking Opportunity, and accessed by talking to the Goodly Adventurer thereafter, Stone, Sky, Sea offers trials tailored to various high-level duties, in which players will be tasked with destroying a striking dummy. The strength of the striking dummy varies depending on the difficulty selected, with all trials having a time limit of three minutes. By completing these challenges in the allotted time, players can gauge their ability to perform in the duties associated with each challenge.
