Template talk:ARR Infobox Fishing

Relatively new to the game and to this wiki, but wondering about fishing and bait - does fishing at different holes actually make a difference in terms of what will respond to which bait? I ask because Template:ARR Infobox Item takes information about what bait attracts a given fish, but this template is duplicating that on a spot-by-spot basis. Couldn't we just use the item's information and save us all a lot of trivial edits (unless, of course, the same fish really do have different appetites in different places...)? There are a few very rare instances where a fish has a better chance of being caught at one fishing hole with one bait, than at a different fishing hole with a different bait. The list of those instances is probably so rare that we could just make a note of it, but it still does exist. Our fishing section definitely could use a little bit of an overhaul in regards to bait.. The template we've got was largely done back before there was a concentrated effort by fishers to catalog exactly what could be caught with what, so we attempted to do that with the per-fishing-hole listing. Then sites like this awesome one came along with a program to monitor exactly what people caught, and put that together in a nice little visual. But, unfortunately as you can see, we can't make an easy 'All Copperfish can be caught with every freshwater bait'-type list.. In large part you can, but there are too many nuances for what we currently have available for our template to effectively show bait. So, a comma list is the best we can do for now :\ Hezkezl (talk) 16:57, 19 August 2014 (CDT)

Thanks for the reply and pointing out that FF14Angler resource! I've no illusions about making a huge project of this, but it's good to be a little more informed about where the limitations are and avenues for future development work. Sethladan 18:13, 19 August 2014 (CDT)
