Square Enix (commonly abbreviated as SE) is a video game company best known for its role-playing games, one series which is known as "Final Fantasy".

Square Enix is and has been developing it's two MMORPG's, part of the "Final Fantasy" series, known as Final Fantasy XI and Final Fantasy XIV.

The name came about because two companies "Square Co." Ltd and "Enix" merged on April 1, 2003. Enix officially took over Square and thus the name Square Enix. Yōichi Wada is the president of Square Enix.

Square Enix also owns Taito Corporation and as of April 22, 2009 the Eidos PLC (Public Limited Company). Eidos PLC recently became Square Enix Europe, though games will still be published with both the Eidos and Square Enix labels.

In July 2010, in a way to get more western experience behind the reins in some of their departments, Mike Fisher was made president of Square Enix USA. Taking control of Square Enix USA, Eidos, and Taito in the US region.

Steam And Digital Download[edit]

Square Enix and Eidos have both been releasing games via the digital download service Steam. With the recent release of Final Fantasy XI : Ultimate Collection to Steam, it is widely believed that the PC version of Final Fantasy XIV may also be available on Steam.
