The pirate king
Rycharde Mistbeard was an enigmatic figure who plundered the
Five Seas during the
Sixth Astral Era. Known for his distinctive mask, he first appeared in the year 1221 and unified several pirate crews under his flagship, the
Haar. He was first reportedly slain in 1249 during a battle with an armed merchant vessel from
Radz-at-Han, but resurfaced just two years later, leading many to believe him immortal.
Three centuries later, in 1522, Mistbeard's pirates did battle with
Bloefhis Bloefhisyn and his
League of Lost Bastards in the open sea off the coast of
eastern La Noscea. The ensuing battle gave the
Bloodshore its name as the tide ran red with the slaughtered pirates' blood. In 1555, the
Haar plundered a foreign vessel loaded with gifts for the wedding of
Sasabal Ul Sisibal and
Nanasha Ul Nasha. Mistbeard disappeared shortly after, never to be seen again. It is said that his treasure was left upon
Hullbreaker Isle.

The treasure left within the Haar on Hullbreaker Isle was, in fact, the mask of Rycharde Mistbeard, passed down through successive generations of the flagship's captains. The last to hold the name of Rycharde Mistbeard was Eynzahr Slafyrsyn, Marshal of the Maelstrom, who left his life of piracy behind to help Merlwyb achieve her ambitions for reform in Limsa Lominsa.
