Though there is no proof to support the claim, rumor has it that these sun-bleached remains of a long-dead denizen of the deep are those of Thalaos, one of the legendary twin sea serpents believed to have been unleashed by the Navigator, Llymlaen, at the dawn of eras to fill the empty seas (the other being Perykos). The name Thalaos likely refers to the large, serpentine skeleton itself. In Version 1, Cassiopeia Hollow contained a small chamber, marked on the map as "Perykos and Thalaos," which contained bones embedded into the walls and floors. This was likely the same structure, though it is now more exposed.

During the quest Buried Truth, Tanga Tonga describes Thalaos as a divine serpent summoned by Llymlaen, and that the belly of Thalaos spewed forth water that became the seas of the world.
