Role-playing is a feature that appears in certain quests. During an instanced duty in this quest, the player will assume control of another character instead of the Warrior of Light for all or part of the battle. The Role-playing status effect is applied to the player during this time.

Some quests with different contexts instead use the Borrowed Flesh or Fresh Perspective status effects.

The player receives a new hotbar for the duration of the battle, containing that character's unique abilities. In most cases, this is a simplified version of an existing job's actions.
